The City of Branson
The area that is now Branson, MO began to be heavily settled in the mid 1800s. The town was named Branson after one R.S. Branson, a general store owner and postmaster who was much beloved to the citizens of the area. Branson is located in Taney County in the south of Missouri, near the Arkansas border. Branson sits in the Central time zone and has an elevation of 778 feet. Branson began to gain popularity in the early 1900s when it was established as a shipping center for the lumber being sent out of the Ozark Mountains. Tourism began to pick up in the 1930s and has continued, growing substantially, until today. The famous 76 Boulevard runs through the middle of Branson and is the site of many of the shows and attractions that are tourist favorites. The weather in Branson fluctuates between the seasons. Winters are usually very cold, while summers are hot and humid. Spring and fall see high temperatures, but less humidity, making these seasons a great time to visit Branson.

The People
Branson is known as the "Family Friendly Las Vegas" and it couldn't be more true. At heart, Branson is an oversized small town. The people that live in Branson year round have a wonderful environment to raise their families and children. In 2005 the population in Branson hovered right at 7,000 and the number has grown just a bit in the following two years. This may seem to be a rather small population, but visitors and seasonal residents aren't included in this census finding. Crime rates are relatively low in Branson. There were only 65 dangerous crimes committed in Branson in 2003 and though the number has grown just a bit, the crime rate is low for a town that is such a popular vacation destination. These rates aside, the people of Branson are generally low maintenance people, enjoying the outdoor opportunities that are available in the area. Table Rock Lake offers recreational opportunities as do the state and city parks in the area.
